It’s hard for me to choose between all your series for a favorite, but this one is my favorite, so far. This worked out perfectly for me and it was such a pleasure to have this series to read steadily throughout the year. I knew I would want to re-read / listen prior to the release of Magic Triumphs. I really enjoyed their story and look forward to more.Thank you all for joining me in a celebration of this amazing series with its stunning world and awesome characters in the Kate Daniels series. Two strong leads in Hugh and Elara, characters with dark pasts and secrets that are just trying to find a place to call their own. Elara is unique because she has a completely unknown magic about her and Hugh needs to find out what it is, so that if she turn on him, he knows what to do! There are the shifters, vampires, ancient magics and more. Buckle up for a lot of fireworks, action and dare I say it, a redemption arc for the bad guy.īeing in the Kate Daniels World, the same rules apply.
It’s focusing on what Hugh is willing to make of himself after his banishment and how his and Elara’s terrible positions may be able to help each other. While a few small overlaps from Kate’s world find their way into this story, it’s really Hugh and Elara’s own.
It was a journey of a story but really unique. It’s recommended that this book is read after Kate Daniels 9 (Magic Binds), and then Hugh and Elara have some roles to play in the end of Kate’s story before finishing their own.Īnyway, Hugh and Elara were some of my favorite things, arranged marriage, monsters finding other monsters to love and accept them, not quite enemies to lovers, but definitely antagonists to something more.
He was a really fun villain and makes a super interesting lead, especially when paired with the White Lady. This is the beginning of a spinoff series for the Kate Daniels World, where the main character is none other than Hugh d’Ambray (aka a big bad from the Kate Daniels series).
